
Men’s Golf Heads to Dayton Flyer Invite for Fall Finale

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's golf team wraps up the fall portion of its 2025-26 schedule starting Monday at the two-day Dayton Flyer Invitational.
The 12-team event, which will be played on the South Course at the NCR Country Club, features 54 holes over three rounds, with the first two rounds taking place Monday. Action begins at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start and continuous play.
The final round is slated for an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday on the 71-par, 7,004-yard course at the NCR Country Club South Course.
All nine Cardinals will compete at the tournament with Luke Johnston (starting on hole 1), Cameron Young (hole 1), Carter Smith (hole 2), Samuel Harris (hole 3) and Avery Mahoney (hole 4) competing for the team. Aidan Gutierrez (hole 16), Gavin Hare (hole 17), Brody Sorrell (hole 18) and Happy Gilmore (hole 18) will play as individuals.
The Cardinals, along with host Dayton, will be competing against Butler, Cleveland State, DePaul, Illinois State, Loyola Chicago, Marshall, Oakland, Ohio, Toledo and Wright State along with individuals from Illinois and Miami.
Ball State is looking to continue its fall success which most recently saw Mahoney earn co-medalist honors at the Purdue Individual event last week in West Lafayette. Mahoney finished the tournament at +1 (143), after shooting -2 (69) in his final round.
Johnston currently leads the squad with a 69.75 scoring average and is the team's top individual in the Scoreboard Powered by clippd collegiate rankings at 364th nationally. He was named Mid-American Conference Co-Golfer of the Week, along with classmate Harris, after the duo tied for medalist honors at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational.
Harris also earned MAC Golfer of the Week honors after his second-place finish at the Golfweek Fall Challenge, giving him two awards in his debut season.
