PITTSBURGH, PA - - For its second test of the 2026-27 season, the Ball State men's golf team will take on the Pittsburgh Field Club for the RedHawk Intercollegiate. The two-day event starts with 36 holes Monday on the 71 par, 6,783-yard course and concludes with 18 more holes Tuesday.
First-round action begins at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start and continuous action into the second round. Ball State's golfers will start the day on holes 1-5 and be paired with host Miami (OH), VCU and individuals from Notre Dame and LSU.
After a strong start to the season, including closing play in the Island Resort Intercollegiate with a collegiate-low round of -6 (66), junior Happy Gilmore will jump into the top spot in the Ball State lineup for the tournament. Gilmore finished sixth among the 80-golfer field last week with career-low 54-hole score of -9 (207).
Sophomore Luke Johnston maintains his spot at No. 2 after finishing second on the squad and tied for 15th overall last week with a score of -3 (213), including a pair of Sunday rounds played at -2 (70).
Breaking into the lineup for the first time in his collegiate career is freshman Mattingly Upchurch who tied for 20th overall at the Island Resort Intercollegiate at -2 (214). The effort included back-to-back rounds of -2 (70).
Rounding out the Ball State lineup will be seniors Cameron Young and Avery Mahoney. Young finished the season-opening tournament with a round of -4 (68), one stroke better than Mahoney's final round of -3 (69). Sophomore Brody Sorrell will compete as an individual for the Cardinals.
Ball State is looking to build upon a solid team performance at last weekend's Island Resort Classic, where it finished sixth among the 12-field team with a score of -7 (857). In fact, the Cardinals closed the event by tying for the lowest final round at -12 (276).
BSU's golfers finished second among the field with a par 4 average of +6 (4.04) and ranked fifth among the field with 55 total birdies.
