One of three stellar freshman on the Ball State roster, Samuel Harris enters the spring season with two MAC Golfer of the Week awards already under his belt ... shared with freshman teammate Luke Johnston, already owns Ball State's program record for low score (198) in a 54-hole tournament.
"What a what a emergence he had," said Ball State coach Mike Fleck, about Harris' first college semester. "He's another one of these talented freshmen that came in and really kind of established himself as one of the top players on our roster. He's another ultra-competitive young man that kind of got comfortable with the college environment through the fall. He had a bit of drop-off towards the back end of the fall. So, hopefully he continues to learn and grow from those experiences. He's going to be somebody that's super relevant for us as we go through the spring season."
FALL 2025 (Fr.): Harris produced a 72.13 stroke average over 15 rounds in his first college semester, including a second-place finish at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in just his second college event ... in a two-week stretch between Sept. 7 and Sept. 21, he fired six consecutive rounds of 69 or lower, with an average round of 67.0 ... shot 68-67-69---204 (-12) at the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Pawley's Island, South Carolina, followed by 65-66-67---198 (-12) at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational at Delaware Country Club ... the second-place finish at Pawley's Island was followed by a co-medalist finish at the E.Y. Invite, when he tied with freshman teammate Luke Johnston with a program-record 198 as the lowest 54-hole score in program history ... earned MAC Golfer (and Co-Golfer) of the Week after each event.
HIGH SCHOOL: The Golfweek Junior Tour Player of the Year in Fall 2024 ... the Charlestown, Indiana, native graduated from Indiana Connections Career Academy in December 2024 and attended Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg before completing his degree online ... was a prep teammate with Carter Smith during his brief stay at Silver Creek ... on the junior circuit, Harris starred over 10 events as part of the Golfweek Junior Tour ... tallied eight finishes inside the top six including one win and a runner-up ... his win came at the Elite Event in Dayton, Ohio, carding rounds of 71 and 68 ... amassed an impressive 71.79 scoring average over 19 rounds on the tour, including 12 of 71 or better ... second-place finish last fall came at the Golfweek Junior Tour event in Columbus, Indiana, with a 71-70 ... top finishes included a 71-73 at Delaware CC in Muncie, and a 70-70 at The Players Club at Woodland Trails, in nearby Yorktown ... 10 of 19 rounds last fall were under par ... at Silver Creek as a freshman and sophomore prior to opting for junior and amateur events, helped the Dragons to a fourth-place tie in the 2022 IHSAA state finals, alongside Smith. "Samuel is a very athletic and determined young man whose game has really taken off over the past 12 months," said Fleck. "One of the things I really love about Samuel is his desire to put himself out there and compete on any level."
