TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Starting a six-week stretch with five tournaments leading up to the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championships conducted in nearby Zionsville, Indiana, the Ball State men's golf team competes in a 20-team tournament at Florida State this week, at the 2026 Seminole Intercollegiate.
Single rounds of golf will be played on each of Sunday, Monday and Tuesday this week, with the Cardinals represented by its stellar freshman trio flanked by junior transfer Cameron Young and junior returner Avery Mahoney. Luke Johnston, Samuel Harris and Brody Sorrell will play in the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 positions this week for Ball State, followed by Young at No. 4, and Mahoney at No. 5. The Cardinals last competed in early February, when they placed ninth at the Lake Jovita Invitational in Dade City, Florida.
In Tallahassee this week, the Cardinals and several nationally ranked teams will navigate the par-72 Seminole Legacy Golf Course with a track that spans 7,505 yards. With No. 38-ranked Florida State as its host, the tournament field also includes No. 15 Tennessee and No. 36 Arkansas State among Top 50 competitors. Top 100 participants include No. 67 Stetson, No. 68 Southern Mississippi and No. 89 North Alabama, with Florida Atlantic currently ranked No. 103 in NCAA Division I men's golf rankings by SCOREBOARD. At Lake Jovita, Ball State was led by Top 10 individual finishes from Sorrell, third, and Johnston, 10th. Sorrell was named the MAC Golfer of the Week to become the third Cardinal freshman to win the award this season.Â
The Seminole Intercollegiate begins a crucial stretch for head coach Mike Fleck and his young roster. The Cardinals will have nearly two weeks prior to taking part in Butler's annual Don Benbow Invitational (March 30-31), but from that point forward, Ball State competes in consecutive weeks at Butler, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Indiana prior to the conference tournament in April.
