September 08, 2025 | Men's Golf
PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. -- Samuel Harris birdied six holes Monday to fire a 5-under par 67 at the par-72, 7,013-yard True Blue Golf Course, to move within one stroke of tournament leader Harrison Sewell of Georgia Southern. Sewell (68-66--134) and Harris (68-67--135) began the day tied at 4-under, two strokes behind first-round leader Tyler Jones (66-70-136) of Western Carolina. Sewell shot 6-under on Monday, though, to set up a 1-2-3 battle in Tuesday's final round.
Harris, playing in the second tournament of his college career, led three Ball State freshman on Monday who shot 67-69-69, collectively. Luke Johnston (71-69--140) sits in 12th place overall and is second on the Ball State leaderboard. His teammate at Evansville North High School, Brody Sorrell (73-69--142), matched Johnston's second-round card to sit at 2-under par through two rounds.
Ball State jumped from eighth place after one round, to fifth place by Monday evening, largely on the strength of its freshmen. While Sorrell's score didn't figure into the Cardinals' team score while playing as an individual in his college debut, Harris and Johnston combined to go 8-under par with 10 birdies on Monday, alone. Happy Gilmore (77-70--147) finished 2-under in Round 2 and senior Carter Smith (75-74--149) finished at 2-over. Junior transfer Cameron Young (70-79--149) is even with Smith after two rounds.
A final round of play begins at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday morning.
