Brody Sorrell is Third Different Cardinals Freshman This Year to Earn MAC Golfer of The Week Honors
February 13, 2026 | Men's Golf
MUNCIE, Ind. – Capping Ball State's first week of the spring men's golf season, freshman Brody Sorrell has been named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week. Remarkably, he is the third different Ball State freshman to win the award during the 2025-26 season.
The Cardinals first earned the award this year after Samuel Harris finished second at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in early September. Two weeks later, Harris and Luke Johnston shared co-medalist honors with program scoring records in the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, and shared MAC Golfer of the Week honors, also. Sorrell earned this week's honor after capturing third place in the Lake Jovita Invitational earlier this week.
Playing as an individual, Sorrell (74-65-69—208) blitzed the field with the best single round of the tournament (-7, 65) and raced within five strokes of the tournament title (203).
Sorrell rebounded from +2 card in Round 1 to produce a remarkable round on Monday afternoon that included 10 birdies while producing the second-best round by a freshman in Ball State history. His round was just the 11th in program history at -7 or better, and he managed his -7 score despite three bogeys, including two in-a-row at one point.
Sorrell returned for Tuesday's final round with another 3-under scorecard to finish at -8 for the tournament. His 18 birdies over three rounds were the best of the 88-player field.
