Bellar Finishes Sixth While Hare & Nasser Both Fire 1-Under in Final Round of Butler Invite
April 01, 2025 | Men's Golf
INDIANAPOLIS -- Kash Bellar shot par on Tuesday to finish in sixth place at the Don Benbow Invitational at Highland Golf and Country Club, and fellow veterans Griffin Hare and Colin Nasser each shot their best rounds at 1-under par to lead four Ball State individuals. Together, with senior Drew Todd, another Cardinal playing his own card, the Ball State foursome would have finished tied for third place as a team in the two-day event.Â
"I'm really proud of these guys," said coach Mike Fleck who saw his four seniors compete independently. "They had another solid day and it was great to see Colin and Griffin shoot under par today. Kash had a really good week, and Drew led the field in pars for the week."
Todd (67-73-73--213), who paced the Cardinals with a 3-under par first round, completed 45 out of 54 holes at par, tied for the most in the tournament. Similarly, Bellar fired birdie on 10 holes over the three rounds, to tie for fifth in the category.
Bellar (72-66-70--208) began the day in a fourth-place tie, just three strokes off the lead. He climbed within two strokes of the lead in the final round, but slipped two spots in the standings as other golfers rose within a single stroke of the leader.
Nasser (71-76-69--216) and Hare (75-73-69--217), meanwhile, raged from the middle of the pack standings-wise, to finish among the top 40 of the 100 total competitors. Hare leaped 24 spots in the standings on the final day to tie for the 39th position and Nasser flew up 21 spots to finish 34th, finishing just one stroke apart.
Fleck and the Cardinals continue a busy week while participating in Vanderbilt University's Mason Rudolph Championship, beginning Friday. Five golfers: Carter Smith, Braxton Kuntz, Ali Khan, Avery Mahoney and Gavin Hare battle at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. By week's end, a total of nine Ball State golfers will compete in 54-hole tournaments over a span of six days.
