Bellar and Todd in Contention After Two Rounds at Butler Invitational
March 31, 2025 | Men's Golf
INDIANAPOLIS -- In a field consisting of 13 teams, a pair of Ball State seniors playing as individuals find themselves in the top 10 through 36 holes at Butler University's Don Benbow Invitational. On a par-70 track at Highland Golf and Country Club, Kash Bellar sits in a fourth-place tie through two rounds, and Drew Todd is tied in 10th.Â
But for a 2-over-par 72 in his opening round, Bellar would be on pace with tournament leader Will Horne of Butler. Horne's 5-under 65 in the second round, and Bellar's 4-under 66, were the best among two rounds by100 golfers overall. Bellar enters Tuesday's final round three strokes off the lead, among six golfers tied at two strokes below par (140).
Bellar (72-66--138) and Todd (67-73--140) helped the Cardinals stand with Butler and Oakland University as the only programs with a pair of golfers in the top ten. Todd put himself in contention early in the day while leading Ball State golfers with a 3-under par showing in the first round. He shot par on 15 holes and fired birdie on three. It was Bellar's turn in the second round, beginning with birdie on the 17th hole in a shotgun start. After a bogey on the par-3 fourth hole, Bellar stayed steady at par over five holes to complete the front-nine, then got hot with birdies on 3 of 6 holes to begin the back-nine.
"On a really cold, windy and long day on the course, it was great to see the under-par rounds posted by Drew in the morning, and Kash in the afternoon," said 27th year Cardinals golf boss Mike Fleck. "Both guys are in the mix going into the final round, which looks like another cold day coming up."
Other Cardinals include Colin Nasser (71-76--147) and Griffin Hare (75-73--148) who are +7 and +8 among the top 63 golfers in the field.
