Field Hockey Suffers 3-0 Setback at Ohio
September 24, 2021 | Field Hockey
ATHENS, Ohio - - The Ball State field hockey team could not get past a tough Ohio defense Friday afternoon, suffering a 3-0 setback in Mid-American Conference play at Pruitt Field.
Â
After being held to just one shot in the opening 30 minutes, the Cardinals (3-6; 1-1 MAC) were able to generate some pressure late, however, rallying for three of its four shots on goal in the final half.
Â
In fact, Ball State put a lot of pressure on the Bobcats (3-7, 1-1 MAC) early in the fourth quarter with a shot a little over a minute in. BSU generated another scoring chance off a penalty corner midway through the period as well, but Agostina Giudice's shot was turned aside.
Â
Giudice tallied two of BSU's four shots on goal in a strong 27 minutes of action. Overall, the Bobcats held an 18 to 6 edge in total shots, including 11 on cage.
Â
Offensively, the Cardinals were able to hold Ohio off the scoreboard for the first 16:51 of the game. Unfortunately, the Bobcats would strike for goals at 16:52 and 20:05 to take control of the scoreboard.
Â
Ohio also tallied a goal late in the fourth to give the game its final score of 3-0.
Â
Despite the three Bobcat goals, Ball State's Ally Butler turned in a solid effort in goal, making eight saves.
Â
The Ball State field hockey team returns to action Sunday, when it welcomes Big Ten foe Indiana back to the Briner Sports Complex. Action for the game is set to being at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ by Ball State Sports Link.
