MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team closed out the home portion of its schedule today suffering a 3-1 setback to Appalachian State Friday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals (4-15, 2-7 MAC) kept the contest within reach throughout the 60-minute duration of today's game against the Mountaineers (13-4, 6-2 MAC) only trailing by a goal at the half.
App State started the game off strong scoring back-to-back goals within minutes of one another to take a quick 2-0 advantage over Ball State in the first period of play.
The Cardinals defense kept the Mountaineers at bay in the second frame which allowed Ball State to draw a penalty corner at the 25:11 mark. Jessica Rochat capitalized off the penalty corner to put BSU on the board to make it a 2-1 ball game. Jade Vandevoorde and Ellie Francois were awarded the assists.
After the break, the Cardinals came close to scoring on a few occasions but struggled to connect. Ball State's defense continued to give App State some trouble allowing only one more goal to be scored in the second half.
The Ball State field hockey team will close out its season Friday, October 31 when it travels to UMass. The game is slated to begin
