Field Hockey Ends Season with Road Loss to UMass

The weather wasn't ideal for the either team as it was windy, rainy and cold. The Cardinals unfortunately gave up five goals in the first half to give the Minutewomen the quick upper hand.
After the break, Ball State regrouped defensively holding UMass scoreless in the third quarter of play.
Also, in the third quarter the Cardinals' offense picked up but although close to scoring a goal at times couldn't connect to the back of the cage.
The Cardinals also changed goalies for the second half inserting Cali Hyman to defend the cage replacing Carleigh Hofelich. Hofelich faced 16 shots, four corners and recorded six saves in the first 30 minutes of play.
The final stanza saw UMass tack two more scores on the board. The Minutewomen secured the No. 2 seed in next week's MAC Tournament with today's victory and a share of the conference regular season title.
It was a bit of a homecoming as well for the Ball State coaching staff as assistant coach Brooke Richards and graduate assistant Emily Crawford both played field hockey for UMass.
