Field Hockey Travels To Ohio Friday Hosts Indiana On Sunday
September 23, 2021 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team has a busy weekend ahead of them as the Cardinals look to remain undefeated in Mid-American Conference action when they travel to Ohio on Friday for a 3 p.m. ET showdown in Athens. After that, Ball State returns to the Briner Sports Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET to host Big Ten foe Indiana.Â
Â
The Cardinals (3-5, 1-0 MAC) stingy defense continues to evolve throughout the season and last Friday was a testament to that as Ball State took down the Central Michigan Chippewas by a score of 2-1 in their league opener. It started with a shot from the far post from Lexi Kansky that snuck by CMU's goalkeeper for her first goal of her career. Kansky's score would come off the assist from Agostina Giudice to put BSU on the board first. Shortly after, Michaela Graney drew a penalty shot which she would connect on to push the Cardinals lead to 2-0. Although CMU did score late in the game, the Cardinals were able to defensively fend off the Chippewas from scoring again as time was winding down sealing the victory.Â
Â
Ball State split its non traditional two game weekend series last season against Ohio in Muncie. The Cardinals won the first meeting 2-1 before dropping the second match-up to the Bobcats by a score of 2-1. Sophomore Maureen Donegan and junior Angel Nkosi both earned goals against Ohio last season. Ball State has won three of the past four meetings against Ohio. The Bobcats lead the all-time series record 24-6.Â
Â
After Friday, Ball State closes its two-game week with a contest versus Big Ten foe Indiana. The Cardinals recently hosted the Hoosiers for a scrimmage on August 20 with IU winning that contest 4-0. The last time the Cardinals defeated Indiana was in 2012 when the Hoosiers played in Muncie.  Ball State won that game by a score of 3-2. The Hoosiers have won the last four contests over Ball State. Indiana leads the all-time series between the two schools 18-5-1 with Ball State winning the first matchup 8-0 on Oct. 25, 2000.Â
