Ryan Fillmann enters his second season as the graduate assistant diving coach for the Ball State University men's and women's swimming and diving programs.
Last season, Fillmann helped coach BSU women's divers Lisa Maertin and Christina Riordan to NCAA Zone Diving Qualifying marks. Maertin went on to earn career-best finishes of 16th in the 3-meter (514.20) and 18th in the 1-meter (449.30) events at the NCAA Zone Diving meet. On the men's side, Fillmann helped coach freshman Quinton Rodriguez to BSU season-high marks in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
A four-year letterwinner in diving at Ohio State University from 1998-2001, Fillimann has competed for and worked under Olympic Diving coaches Vince Panzano and John Wingfield. He has also trained under Olympic champions Gao Min and Mark Lenzi.
Fillmann's coaching experience includes tutoring a pair of Ohio High School State Diving Champions while working with the boys at Thomas Worthington High School and the girls at Worthington Kilbourne High School in 2003.
A three-year team captain at Ohio State, Fillmann was the 1995 Indiana High School Athletics Association 1-Meter Diving State Champion as a sophomore at Muncie Central. He was the youngest state title winner since 1972-73 and one of only three high school sophomores to have ever captured the Indiana state diving title at the time.
Fillmann, who graduated from Ohio State with a bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences, is currently working towards his master's degree in public administration at Ball State.
