MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State men's golf team closes the fall portion of its 2026-27 slate starting Monday when it travels to Kettering, Ohio, for the Flyer Invitational hosted by Dayton at the NCR Country Club South Course.
The Cardinals kick off the two-day event with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Monday on the par 71, 7,044-yard course for the first two rounds. Action is scheduled to conclude Tuesday with another 9 a.m. shotgun start for the final round of play.
Ball State is coming off a strong finish at this week's Purdue Fall Invitational (Oct. 12-13), which saw the squad place third among the 13 teams with a team score of +14 (1094). It was Ball State's best-ever team finish in the now six-year history of the tournament, with the Cardinals defeating in-state rivals Indiana, Butler and Purdue Fort Wayne.
Looking at the upcoming event at NCR, this will be Ball State's fourth time competing in the Flyer Invitational since the 2021-22 campaign, with BSU placing fourth among the 12-team field in last season's edition with a team score of +21 (873).
Luke Johnston led the Cardinals a year ago on the South Course, tying for fourth among the 82-player field with a score of -3 (210). The effort included a -4 (67) in the second round, which tied for the lowest second round score of the event. Also finishing in the Top 20 for the Cardinals in last season's event were Avery Mahoney in a tie for 18th (+6 / 219) and Cameron Young in a tie for 20th (+7 / 220).
Overall, the Cardinals enter the tournament with a 284.75 team scoring average based on the top four scorers at each of the previous four team events (factoring out the fifth counted score in the non-traditional Purdue Fall Invitational). The effort is on pace to break the program's single-season scoring average record of 289.72 set by the 2023-24 squad.
