January 17, 2026 | Track & Field
INDIANAPOLIS -- Laya'Lapri Ratney captured top honors in the 60m hurdles on Saturday morning, finishing the track in 8.60 seconds. Shortly after, she also finished sixth in the 60m dash to lead Ball State competitors on the second day of the Hoosier Horsepower Classic indoor track meet at Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Ratney, a sophomore transfer from Abilene Christian who grew up in Gary, Indiana, won her heat in the 60m hurdles on Friday, and paced the finals race on Saturday morning. Teammates Kenli Nettles and Lia Patterson finished fourth and sixth, respectively. In the 60m dash, Cardinal veteran Alana Springer finished fifth overall, just 5/100ths of a second ahead of Ratney.
The Cardinals finished in a pack during the track's 400m finals that was split into four heats. All running in separate heats, Ball State sprinters clocked times which anchored the top eight in consecutive order: Paige Kirtz (57.78) won the third heat and finished fifth, Abby Brennan (58.21) was sixth, and freshmen Lia Patterson (58.31) and Amina Hadziahmetovic (59.10)Â were seventh and eighth out of 18 entrants.
Other top finishes Saturday, freshman Anisa Barnett finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.41m on her last of six attempts -- in what was the first triple jump competition of her college career. Sarah Mahnensmith finished fourth in the mile run and Sydney Miller placed fifth in the shot put competition.
