September 26, 2025 | Men's Golf
RICHMOND, Ind. -- Ball State sophomore Gavin Hare shot 3-under par on Friday while finishing in a second-place tie among 40 competitors in The Indy at Forest Hills. It was the best standings finish of his two-year college career.
Played at the par-70, 6,260-yard course at Forest Hills Country Club, Hare fired a 3-under 67 in the opening round, just one stroke off the pace set by Toledo's Julius Lange. Hare was 6-under through 27 holes on the day, collecting three birdies on the front nine of his second round, but bogeys on three of his final five holes left him at par for his second trip around the track.
Behind Lange as the medalist, Hare tied for the second position with Davis Gochenouer of Cincinnati and Nate Vanderhaar of host Miami (OH).
Hare (67-70--137) led a field of four Ball State golfers who competed in the individual event, aimed at providing competition experience outside of structured team play. Junior Avery Mahoney completed two rounds at 1-under par (69-70--139) for a top-10 finish, ninth, of his own. Two strokes behind him was Aidan Gutierrez (70-71--141) who shot +1. Freshman Brody Sorrell (77-71--148) rounded out the Ball State contingent and finished 24th.
