May 04, 2026 | Men's Golf
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- Avery Mahoney countered five bogeys with five birdies on Monday to lead Ball State with an even par scorecard during the second round of the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championships, conducted at Holliday Farms Golf Club.
Mahoney played at par in Sunday's opening round, but for a handful of bogeys. On Monday, on his second trip around the par-71, 7,349-yard track, his five birdies were two behind tournament leaders as he climbed 12 spots in the individual standings.
Mahoney (78-71---149) shot -2 in his final five holes to finish strong, firing birdies on the fifth and seventh holes, after beginning the day on the #10 tee. His round was Ball State's best of the tournament so far, and helped the Cardinals rise from seventh place, into a fifth-place tie, through 36 holes. The Cardinals (607) enter Tuesday's final round tied with Kent State (607) and Bowling Green (607), and four strokes behind host Central Michigan (603).
Mahoney enters the final round in 12th place, tied with teammate Happy Gilmore (75-74---149). Gilmore shot 4-over on Sunday and improved to 3-under on Monday. Freshman Samuel Harris (75-76---151) sits in 16th place overall, two strokes behind Mahoney and Gilmore.Â
Due to anticipated weather complications on Tuesday, tee times for the final round of the MAC Championships have been moved up to 8 a.m.
