Johnston Named Second Team All-MAC
May 08, 2026 | Men's Golf
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State freshman Luke Johnston has been named to the Mid-American Conference men's golf All-MAC second team, as announced Friday by the league.
Johnston, who won the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational hosted by Ball State last fall, finished his first college season with a 72.15 stroke average that was the Cardinals' best. He finished his freshman season with three top-three finishes and his head-to-head record of 472-289-17 was the fourth-best in the MAC. Overall, he boasted four top-10 finishes over the 2025-26 campaign, and produced three rounds of -5 or better.
At the E.Y. Invitational, he beat freshman teammate Samuel Harris in a four-hole playoff to claim the individual title. Both freshman set a new program record with a 198 score that was a stroke lower than Carter Smith's 199 in 2023. He shot 65-64-69 in that event and finished 12-under par for the second-best score in program history, relative to par.
Over 27 rounds, Johnston's 72.15 average was the lowest by a Ball State player since Kash Bellar's 71.94 in 2022-23. It is the sixth straight year that a Ball State player earned first- or second-team honors in the MAC.
