
Women's Swim & Dive Captures Six Victories Against Miami

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's swimming & diving team turned in a solid effort Saturday afternoon, picking up six event wins in a dual meet versus Miami at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.

Despite the six wins, the Cardinals (3-4) suffered a 167-132 setback to the visiting RedHawks (5-2).

Junior Laura Wright got the meet started with a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.43. Wright then followed up with an additional victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.72).

The Cardinals also had a great showing in the sprint freestyles, starting with a 1-2 finish in the 50. Payton Kelly took home the victory in 24.08, while Apsara Sakbun was a hundredth off the pace in second at 24.09.

Sakbun would not be denied an event win, however, as she took top billing in the 100 freestyle in 52.72.

Sophomore Ashleigh Provan continued her great start to the second half of the season taking home victories on both the 1M (274.73) and 3M (277.58) diving boards. Provan's score of 274.73 on the 1M board was a NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark.

The Ball State women's swimming & diving program will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 28, at noon when it hosts Bellarmine on Senior Day at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
The Cardinals will then close their regular season next Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Butler Invite held at Fishers High School.
