Men’s Tennis Opens 2023 Season at Home Friday Against EIU

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team opens its 2023 spring season at home Friday for the second-straight season against Eastern Illinois at 1 pm ET in the Muncie Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals defeated the Panthers last season in Muncie by a score of 7-0, Jan. 21, 2022 and have won 13-straight dating back to the 2009-10 season.
Ball State returns eight players from last year's squad: senior Eli Herran, graduate student Danilo Kovacevic, senior Vince Orlando, sophomore Petar Petrovic, senior Parrish Simmons, junior Sajin Smith, sophomore Nathaniel Webster and senior Abe Wojtalik.
The Cardinals also welcome two newcomers, freshmen Broc Fletcher and Jacks Lancaster.
Longtime coach Bill Richards continues to be at the helm of the Cardinals this season. Richards is the winningest men's tennis coach in Ball State and Mid-American Conference history. He has amassed a 733-450 (.619) overall record and a 228-73 (.766) conference ledger for his career. Richards has coached 17 teams to undefeated regular seasons and 38 MAC regular and/ or tournament championships, with the first conference title coming in 1984. Richards has also garnered MAC Coach of the Year accolades 15 times and has made eight NCAA tournament appearances.
