
Men’s Tennis Opens 2023 Spring Season With 7-0 Sweep Over EIU

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team opened spring play on a high note, earning a 7-0 sweep against Eastern Illinois Friday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA.
The Cardinals brought back a wealth of experience for the season and today it showed. Veterans Eli Herran and Vince Orlando were the first twosome off the court after posting a 6-1 take down at the No. 2 position against EIU's Tyler Carlin and Thomas Wallace.
Shortly after, the BSU duo of Abe Wojtalik and Broc Fletcher captured the deciding doubles point with a 6-4 victory versus the Panthers' Pau Riera and M. Pilipovic-Kljajic.
Although, the doubles point had been decided, the top court finished their match as Danilo Kovacevic partnered with Parrish Simmons for a 6-4 win over Alex Dinkov and Cameron Slabber.
In singles, the Cardinals took all six courts from the Panthers in straight sets. Petar Petrovic and Jacks Lancaster wrapped up their matches quickly only giving up a combined three games as both went on to win their respective matches at the No. 6 and No. 5 positions.
With the Cardinals up 3-0, it did not take much longer for Herran to clinch the match as he beat Carlin on court No. 4 by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues spring action at home when it hosts Illinois State next Friday (Jan. 27) at 1 p.m.
All indoor home matches will be played at the Northwest YMCA.
