Women’s Tennis Remains Unblemished In MAC With Win Over BGSU
March 26, 2021 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team remains the only undefeated team in the Mid-American Conference after turning in a tenacious performance against Bowling Green Friday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
The Cardinals (13-2, 4-0 MAC) extended its win streak to 13 overall and four in league play with their 4-3 take down over the Bowling Green Falcons (7-4, 3-2 MAC).
Ball State continues to dominate in doubles play, jumping ahead early yet again over its opponent after taking courts one and two from BGSU.
Jessica Braun paired up with teammate Silvia Martinez today at spot No. 2 for a quick 6-2 win over Bowling Green's Ayumi Sasaki and Ioanna Tsadari. Shortly after, Amy Kaplan alongside her doubles partner Emma Peeler notched a 6-3 defeat on the top court over the Falcons' Margarita Tavpash and Laura Silveira, clinching the doubles point for BSU.
Both Mariya Polishchuk and Martinez made quick exists at the start of singles play both beating their individual opponents in straight sets on courts four and six, respectively to push the Cardinals lead to 3-0.
After that, Bowling Green began to fight back winning on courts one and three to make it a 3-2 match with only two courts left.
Ball State head coach Max Norris wasn't surprised that the Falcons would make it a close match for the Cardinals in singles play. He knew BGSU was a very tough and savvy team and that the Falcons weren't going to back down in singles after BSU had won the doubles point.
But as always, Norris' team came through as Braun fought back after dropping the first frame 2-6 to the Falcons' No. 2 singles player Tsadari. She then went on to claim the next two sets, 6-3, 7-5 to earn the final point for the Cardinals.
Norris was very proud of his team today and their ability to stay focused through some adverse situations.
The Cardinals are excited to get back on the court Sunday at 1 p.m. ET against Toledo at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
