March 20, 2021 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Cardinals (11-3, 1-2 MAC) got back on the winning track today after registering an impressive 6-1 win over Toledo (4-5, 0-3 MAC) in Mid-American Conference action this afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
Newcomer Sajin Smith clinched the victory for Ball State while his teammates Eli Herran, Parrish Simmons, Thibault de Negri and Danilo Kovacevic also contributed to BSU's six- point defeat over the Rockets. All five Cardinals won in straight sets against their respective opponents.
The Cardinals picked up the first win of the day at No. 2 doubles as de Negri and Simmons breezed through their match after defeating the Rockets Max Skaer and Luis Kleinschnitz, 6-2.
Ball State had strong leads on courts one and three, but the doubles point ultimately would be claimed by Herran and Bonin who won at the three spot after beating Thawin Suksathaporn and Wojciech Szczesny, 6-4.
Herran, who leads the Cardinals in singles action this season improved his overall record to 10-1 after only giving up two games against Szczesny for a 6-2, 6-0 win at position five.
After that, it was a domino effect as the Cardinals took down the Rockets one-by-one with Smith earning match point after registering a 6-3, 6-1 win over Adam Kovac at No. 4 singles.
The Ball State men's tennis team will take a small break from MAC play next weekend when the Cardinals host Butler on Saturday, March 27 at 2 p.m. ET. The match will be played outdoors at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center or indoors at the Northwest YMCA Tennis Center, weather permitting.
