Men’s Tennis Back On A Win Streak With 6-1 Win Over Butler Saturday
March 27, 2021 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The No. 44 Ball State men's tennis team had the weekend off from its Mid-American Conference schedule, so the Cardinals decided to play a non-conference in-state school instead when they hosted the Butler Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
The Cardinals (12-3) extended their win streak back to three after registering a 6-1 take down over Butler (3-4).
It is often that these two Indiana schools collide due to such a close proximity and it is always tough competition regardless of who has the more talented team. But this year Ball State managed to take an early 1-0 advantage after taking the doubles point from the Bulldogs.
The doubles competition went down in order starting with the top court as Danilo Kovacevic alongside partner Chris Adams beat Butler's Michael Dickson and Thomas Brennan, 6-4. BSU's No. 2 duo of Thibault de Negri and Parrish Simmons also defeated their opponent by a score of 6-4 clinching the doubles point.
Ball State would dominate singles action taking five of the six courts from Butler. The game-winning match came from Simmons at the No. 6 slot. Simmons gave up only four games to the Bulldogs Michael Karr to take the match, 6-1, 6-3.
Sajin Smith, Adams, Kovacevic along with their teammate Eli Herran also earned victories today on their respective courts.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns to Mid-American Conference action on Friday, April 2 when it plays at Binghamton. First serve is at 11 a.m. ET.
