BSU Women’s Golfers Return to Familiar Site for Spring Break Shootout
March 10, 2019 | Women's Golf
Cardinals looking to build on positive showing at Rio Verde
At the very least, the Ball State women's golf team is familiar with its surroundings this week.
The Cardinals saw the very same Lake Jovita Golf Club in Dade City, Florida, last month when they opened their spring schedule by hosting a match play event there.
Now they are back for the third annual Spring Break Shootout starting Monday morning. Ball State will compete for the second straight year, having finished ninth last spring behind top-25 finishes from Manon Tounalom and Liz Kim.
Both players are back again as part of this week's Ball State lineup, along with Emily Knouff and freshmen Morgan Lewis and Hadley Moritz. Three more BSU freshmen are on the trip and will compete as individuals: Dylann Armstrong, Ja Santadusit and Elizabeth Amendola.
The event is co-hosted by Florida Gulf Coast and defending champion Western Kentucky. The 15-team field also includes Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Belmont, Illinois State, Jacksonville, Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe, Oakland, Ohio, Samford, Southern Illinois and Troy.
Ball State is coming off a 10th place finish out of 18 teams at the Rio Verde Invitational in its first stroke play event of the spring season. Tounalom tied for 26th to lead the way in the weather-shortened 36-hole tournament.
The Spring Break Shootout gets underway Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday. Live scoring is available every nine holes at birdiefire.com.
