Women?s Swimming & Diving Wins House Of Champions Meet

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming and diving team posted 843 total points to win the two-day 2009 House of Champions Invitational hosted by IUPUI.
BSU topped second-place Ashland (669) by 174 points. Xavier finished third with 521 points followed by Western Illinois 9403), IUPUI (308), Indianapolis (308) and Butler (208).
Overall, the Cardinals posted 26 top three finishes, including four event victories, over the 20 women's events.
Senior Mary Ehresman (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson H.S.) was a two-event winner for the Cardinals, capturing first place in the two longest individual event, the 500 freestyle (5:10.17) and the 1650 freestyle (17:47.75).
Junior Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pinckney H.S.) took home top billing in the 200 freestyle (1:56.09), while Mackenzie Imbro (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville H.S.) scored a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.58). Bylsma also placed third in the 100 freestyle (53.81), while Mackenzie took second in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.00) and third in the 200 individual medley (2:13.26).
In the diving board, senior Lisa Maertin (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way-Central H.S.) scored a pair of second-place efforts, posting 242.95 on the 1-meter board and 267.65 on the three-meter board.
Fellow senior Emily Karwoski (Zionsville, Ind./North Central H.S.) also scored a pair of second-place efforts, posting a time of 2:12.39 in the 200 individual medley and 4:42.93 in the 400 individual medley.
Sophomore Sara Hostetler (Vincennes, Ind./Jasper H.S.) also scored a pair of second-place efforts, posting a time of 57.61 in the 100 butterfly and 2:07.98 in the 200 backstroke. She also placed thid in the 200 butterfly (2:09.29).
Rounding out BSU's second-place finishers were sophomore Elizabeth Spilman (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) in the 1650 freestyle (18:03.87) and junior Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.) in the 200 butterfly (2:07.19).
The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to action Nov. 20-21 when it hosts the 2009 Doug Coers Invitational which will also feature Findlay and Grand Valley State.
