Coach Longacre came into her second season as head coach with an impressive freshman class and a focused group of upperclassmen. Her 2017 squad finished the season with 5-12 record, 1-5 in the MAC. She led a team with 10 Academic All-MAC selections and one All-MAC Second Team honoree (Carley Shannon).
In her first season as head coach, Coach Longacre helped lead the team to an 8-11 record. Longacre and the squad earned their way into the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the first time since 2011.
Christy Longacre was named head coach for the Ball State field hockey program in December 2015.
“Christy has proven herself as a collegiate All-American and as a valuable assistant coach,” Ball State Director of Athletics Mark Sandy said. “I am certain she will make an outstanding head coach and we are fortunate to have her lead our field hockey program.”
Longacre, a two-time All-American at Old Dominion, was first named assistant coach for the Ball State field hockey program in May 2014. She originally joined the staff as a volunteer assistant in February 2014.
“I am incredibly excited and deeply humbled to have the fortune to be Ball State’s next head field hockey coach,” Longacre said. “I would like to thank President Ferguson, Mark Sandy and Pat Quinn for this great opportunity.”
Longacre was named to the All-America first team by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association as a senior at Old Dominion in 2013 and was a second-team selection as a junior in 2012. She was a conference Defensive Player of the Year on two occasions, earning the award in the Colonial Athletic Association as a junior and in the Big East as a senior.
A two-time first team all-conference and NFHCA All-Region selection, Longacre scored 20 goals as a four-year letter winner for Old Dominion. She helped the Monarchs to four NCAA tournament appearances, including a trip to the national semifinals in 2011.
In addition to her playing career at Old Dominion, Longacre competed on the Mid-Atlantic team at the 2010 and 2011 Junior Women’s National Championships.
“I am thrilled to continue my coaching career at Ball State and look forward to working with our student-athletes, both on and off the field,” Longacre said. “We aspire to return our program to being a MAC championship contender year-in and year-out.”
The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania native earned her bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion in December 2013. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Tracey Longacre and has one sister, Brandy.
