MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (2-5) will open Mid-American Conference action this Friday at Longwood University (1-5) for a 2 pm ET conference showdown at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.

The two squads will meet for the first time since last season when the Cardinals defeated the Lancers 3-1 in Muncie, Ind., on October 4, 2024. Ball State veterans Emma van Hal along with Julia Verratti each scored a goal a piece that contest.

Friday's game will mark the 17th meeting all-time between the two squads with Longwood leading the series 10-6. Ball State has not defeated the Racers in Farmville, Va., since October 25, 2019, which resulted in a 2-1 overtime victory for the Cardinals.

Longwood is looking to snap a four-game losing streak after recently losing to Albany 3-0 on Sunday while Ball State hopes to extend its win streak to two after posting a 2-1 overtime victory against Lock Haven on Sunday.

After Friday, Ball State will return to non-conference action when it plays at Virginia Commonwealth (3-2) for a 1 pm ET contest on Sunday in Richmond, Va.
