September 21, 2025 | Field Hockey
RICHMOND, Va. - The Ball State field hockey team (3-6) suffered a 4-0 setback to Virginia Commonwealth (5-2) Sunday afternoon at Cary Street Field.
The Rams would be the first to score in today's contest after Mackenzie White found the back of the cage at the 6:01 mark. The Cardinals defense faced five total shots in the opening quarter and three corners.
Ball State was able to limit the number of shots from VCU in the second frame but the Rams managed to tack on another score prior to intermission after capitalizing off of a penalty corner to make it a 2-0 ball game at the half.
After the break, the Cardinals continued to struggle offensively, and the Rams were able to score two more times once in the third and fourth frames to secure their four score victory over Ball State.
In goal for BSU was Carleigh Hofelich who suffered her first loss of the season. Hofelich faced 15 shots and 11 corners while earning three saves for the game.
The Ball State field hockey team looks to remain undefeated in Mid-American Conference action when it hosts Central Michigan on Friday at 1 pm ET and will close out the weekend at home against Kent State on Sunday at noon. Both contests will be played at the Briner Sports Complex.
