Junior sprinter Jazmin Smith picked up right where she left off last season, winning the 60m hurdles in a dominating performance Saturday at the Mastodon Opener which was the 2017-18 indoor season-opener for the Ball State track & field program.
The defending Mid-American Conference Indoor Champion in the event, Smith breezed past the competition Saturday, clocking in at 8.65 in the finals to win by nearly half a second. It was also the 15th-fastest time recorded nationally during the opening weekend of the season.
In addition to dominating the 60m hurdles, Smith placed third in the 300m dash with a career-fast time of 41.38 and was a member of the third-place 4x400m relay which clocked in at 4:06.03 to help the Cardinals post a 5-0 dual record at the meet.
