For his historic performance at Bowling Green last weekend, Ball State baseball junior infielder Dylan Grego has been named the Pridemark Construction Student-Athlete of the Week.
Grego had a historic performance in Ball State's 23-18 comeback victory at Bowling Green on Friday afternoon. The junior shortstop hit three home runs and collected nine RBI, making him the tenth NCAA Division I player this season with a 9+ RBI game and third MAC player with a three-home run contest. It was the first nine-RBI performance by a Ball State player since 2017.
Grego blasted a two-run shot in the eighth and a grand slam in the ninth in addition to a three-run homer in the second to lead the Cardinals to a win in a game they trailed after each of the first eight innings.
Grego followed that up with a game-winning triple to clear the bases and give Ball State a 14-11 lead in the ninth inning of an eventual 16-12 series-clinching decision on Saturday.
For the weekend, Grego went 7-for-16 with a double, a triple, four home runs, 13 RBI and eight runs scored. The Kansas City, Mo., native, who on Friday afternoon was named to the watch list of the Brooks Wallace Award honoring the nation's top shortstop, posted a 1.875 OPS in 16 at bats against the Falcons.
