MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team put up 10 runs in the middle innings but fell 20-10 to Indiana on Tuesday afternoon at Shebek Stadium.

The Cardinals (19-21) fell behind 8-0 early to the Hoosiers (19-22) but got two runs in the third inning and four each in the fourth and fifth frames to cut the deficit to five at 15-10. Indiana scored once in the sixth and four times in the eighth to take the eight-inning decision.

Ryan Muizelaar hit a two-run single for Ball State to plate Preston Murphy and Gavin Balius in the third. Brady Davidson hit a solo home run to center field in the fourth and Murphy (two-run double) and Balius (RBI single) tacked on run-scoring hits in the four-run frame.

Charlie Keller blasted a two-run homer to right in the fifth, and Muizelaar followed with a two-run single, but the Ball State offense couldn't keep up with an Indiana attack that scored the bulk of its runs in the first (six), fourth (five) and eighth (four) innings.

Indiana got four hits and seven RBI from leadoff hitter Hogan Denny, while Anthony Gubitosi (2-0) worked 2.2 shutout innings of relief to be credited with the win.

Muizelaar paced the Ball State batters with three hits and four RBI, while Davidson, Brett Griffiths, Kenskey Thomas and Balius joined him as Cardinals with multiple base knocks on the afternoon.

Ball State starting pitcher Nate Bartlett (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing five runs in one-third of an inning.

The Cardinals stay home to host IU South Bend at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
