
Field Hockey Drops Close Contest to 12th Ranked UofL Sunday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team scored two goals against one of the nation's top defenses Sunday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as the 12th-ranked Louisville Cardinals would take home today's win by a score of 4-2.Â

With the loss, Ball State dropped to 1-5 on the season while UofL improved its overall record to 5-3.

Ball State is only one of four schools that have scored two or more goals against Louisville so far this season.Â

Louisville's Izzy Bianco capitalized on a penalty corner for UofL's first goal of the contest at the 2:46 mark in the opening quarter. Louisville would tack on one more score in the second frame to take a 2-0 edge over Ball State at intermission.Â

After the break, it didn't take long for Emma van Hal to get BSU on the board after scoring off a penalty corner with only three minutes shaved off the clock, making it a 2-1 ball game. The goal was van Hal's fourth of her career.

UofL would score a goal at the end of the third quarter and then added another one at the start of the fourth to increase its lead to 4-1.Â

Ball State's Nadine Loeps scored her first career goal with 56:09 left on the clock in the final stanza off the assist from Emma Hilton for the final score of today's game.Â

Defensively, Hannah Johnston was in goal for the Cardinals, collecting nine saves to bring her career saves total to 396.Â

The Ball State field hockey team will be back in action at the Briner Sports Complex on Friday against the Miami RedHawks. The game is slated to begin at 3 pm ET.
