
No. 11 Men’s Volleyball Earns Wednesday Sweeps Over Wabash and Thomas More

MUNCIE, Ind. - The No. 11 Ball State men's volleyball team improved to 3-0 on the season after earning sweeps over Wabash College (0-2) and Thomas More (0-1) Wednesday in a two-match matinee in Worthen Arena.
In the Cardinals first match, versus the Little Giants of Wabash, each set was close between the two squads. Frame one consisted of six ties and three lead changes. Ball State rallied for back-to-back points off kills from Ryan Bartz to go up 12-9. BSU continued that momentum to take set one, 25-14 which was capped off by a kill from Bartz.
Set two saw Wabash take an early 10-7 edge over Ball State but a few hitting errors by the Little Giants and back-to-back kills from Will McPhillips and Keau Thompson gave BSU back the 13-10 lead. The Cardinals continued to rally, and Thompson would serve up an ace for set point, 25-14.
The Cardinals dominated in the final frame and went on to complete the sweep after taking the third set by 10 points (25-15).
For the match, Bartz turned in a career best performance 14 kills while Thompson finished the match with 11.
Ball State closed out play Wednesday against Thomas More. All three sets were tightly contested between the Cardinals and the Saints, but Ball State prevailed takings set one (25-16), set two (25-18) and set three (25-14).
Again, Ball State third-year head coach Donan Cruz interjected a new lineup in the second match which was led by Patrick Rogers who had 10 kills while hitting .316 from the floor off 19 total swings.
The Cardinals served up a total of 18 aces in two matches today while hitting .324 from the floor and had 57 defensive digs along with 19 blocks.
The No. 11 Ball State men's volleyball team will now take to the road this weekend when it plays at No. 9 BYU Friday and Saturday. First serve for both matches will be at 9 pm ET.
