MVB Welcomes Charles Norman as Assistant Coach
August 11, 2025 | Men's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State men's volleyball welcomes Florida native Charles Norman as assistant coach heading into the 2026 season, as announced by interim head coach Mike Iandolo.
"I really look forward to what Charles will bring to this program," Iandolo stated. "While young, he has already been a head coach at every level of the game."
At Barry University, Norman demonstrated his leadership and dedication to development, beginning as a volunteer assistant coach for the women's program in the spring of 2024 before being promoted to full-time the following summer. Norman helped the women to a 24-5 record, including an 11-match winning streak towards the end of the season, as the team earned a #18 national ranking and its third appearance in two years at the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Tournament.
Following his success as an assistant for the women, Norman enjoyed the honors of being selected as head coach of the men's program heading into the Buccaneer's inaugural season in 2025. As the sole coach of the team, Norman recruited a 19-man roster, building the second NCAA men's collegiate program in the state of Florida. As he led the men to rank fourth in the country in blocks with 2.57 per set, Norman also developed freshman walk on Ryan Uridel to rank in the top five in the country in blocks, averaging 1.18 per set.
"Starting any program from scratch is difficult, but to do it at Barry and immediately be competitive in the DI/II world is impressive," Iandolo stated. "His passion for the game and the student-athletes is infectious and will work well in our gym."
Prior to his responsibilities at Barry, Norman spent time as head coach for both the boy's and girl's indoor programs at John A. Ferguson Senior High School from 2020-24. Norman boasted an overall record of 73-35 as the girls topped the district for three-consecutive years and earned a Greater Miami Athletic Conference Championship in 2023. Norman also led the boys to earn district runner ups two years in a row from 2020-22 and a GMAC runner up during their 2022-23 campaign.
On the club level, Norman has been head coach for Miami United Volleyball since 2020, while also serving as recruiting director and college camps and clinics coordinator. During his tenure, Norman has celebrated two Southeastern Gold Championships and a Chicago Winter Classic Championship with his teams. In 2025, Norman was elected as the Team Florida High Performance U17 boys assistant coach.
In his freshman year at Robert Morris University in 2019, Norman was named a starter at the setter position and ranked 19th nationally in total assists. Following Roosevelt University's acquisition of Robert Morris in 2020, Norman attended Florida International University where he earned his bachelor's in psychology in December 2024.
