September 16, 2023 | Men's Tennis
DAYTON, Ohio - The Ball State men's tennis team turned in another successful day at the James O'Connell Memorial Tournament which was hosted by Dayton this weekend at the Graul Tennis Complex.
In the Cardinals last day of competition, Ball State opened the day with a round of singles against Dayton. The Cardinals took four of the six matches from the Flyers.
"Very productive weekend for us. Split a lot of playing time among our nine guys," Ball State head men's tennis coach Bill Richards said. "Our results were pretty good winning 11 of 18 singles matches and 7 of 9 doubles matches while splitting playing time between those 9 guys. I like our team a lot. Looking forward to the remaining fall schedule and the return of All MAC player Nathaniel Webster who isn't quite back yet from ankle surgery."
Eli Herran, Jacks Lancaster, and Mason Tran each took down their respective opponents in straight sets. Herran took his math over Erik Eliasson, 6-3, 6-3. Lancaster claimed a 7-5, 6-4 win against San Dore and Tran was victorious in both his frames 6-1 versus Ronnie Hirer. Drew Hayward rounded out the wins after posting a 6-7, 6-1, 10-7 score over Eric Suk.
After singles, the Cardinals closed out the tournament with two rounds of doubles.
Herran and Tran faced Northern Kentucky's Trevor Ball and Santiago Casamayor winning the match, 6-1. Lancaster alongside Hayward registered a 6-4 defeat versus NKU's Brandon Ponomarew and Josef Zapletal, 6-4.
Against Xavier, Ball State went on to take two of the three doubles matches. The duo of Herran and Orlando defeated Kyle Totorica and Cristian Gonzalez, 7-5. Sajin Smith paired up with Broc Fletcher for a 6-1 win against Charlie Temming and Alex Adamec.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns to the court Sept. 29-Oct. 1 for its annual Ball State Fall Invite.
