Men’s Volleyball Wraps Up Play in California with Five-Set Win at UC San Diego

LAJOLLA, Calif. - The No. 12 Ball State men's volleyball team (11-6) closed out its two-match competition in California with a five-set win at UC San Diego (6-10) Sunday night at LionTree Arena.
The scores for each set were 23-25, 25-19, 25-15, 23-25, 15-12 in favor of the Cardinals. With the victory, Ball State remains undefeated all-time (9-0) against UC San Diego.
Behind Kaleb Jenness' 21-kills the Cardinals were able to put away the Tritons tonight on their home court. Jenness also got help from Tinaishe Ndavazocheva who added 15 kills. David Flores also shined after dishing out 48 assists while registering nine digs. Defensively, Felix Egharevba was on fire at the net with 10 block assists.
After the Cardinals started out slow, falling to the Tritons in the opening frame. Ball State came back in the second set having one of its best team hitting performances of the season .714 percent with 15 kills off 21 swings. The Cardinals continued to carry that same momentum into the third period to take a 2-1 match lead at the break over the Tritons.
UC San Diego jumped out to a 17-11 advantage over BSU in the fourth and eventually won the set to send the match into an extra period.
In the fifth set, both teams played point-for-point until the Cardinals were able to push ahead 10-8 after a Jenness kill. Ball State remained in control the remainder of the final frame and would seal the win after a kill from Bryce Behrendt.
The Ball State men's volleyball team continues play out west when travels to Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz., Wednesday at 10 pm ET.
