Women’s Tennis Takes 6-1 Win Over In-State Rival Butler

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (9-2) defeated one of its in-state rivals Butler (2-9) by a score of 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA. The Cardinals took the doubles point along with five of the six singles courts for today's victory.
In doubles, Amy Kaplan and Annika Planinsek earned a 6-1 take down against Butler's No. 3 doubles tandem Norah Balthazor and Jordan Schildcrout. Shortly after, Jessica Braun and Emily Desai claimed the first point of the match at the No. 2 slot after a 6-0 defeat against the Bulldog's Delaney Schurhamer and Veronica Bruetting.
The Cardinals continued to dominate play in singles with wins on courts three, six, five, four and one. Elena Malykh beat Katie Beavin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 for match point to help propel Ball State past Butler.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues non-conference action when it heads out west for spring break. The Cardinals will play at Azusa Pacific University Monday, March 6 at 5 pm ET.
