Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Break Trip with Win Over Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. - The Ball State women's tennis team continues to shine this spring, winning its seventh-straight match after defeating Azusa Pacific 4-2 Monday evening.
The Cardinals (9-2) took the early 1-0 edge over the Cougars (8-3) after winning the doubles point.
Annika Planinsek alongside doubles partner Elena Malykh were the first duo off the court winning at the No. 3 slot by a score of 6-1. Azusa Pacific would even doubles play after taking the top court from Ball State. Amy Kaplan and Jessica Braun would earn a 6-4 decision on court No. 2 to claim the doubles point for the Cardinals.
In singles, the Cougars knotted the score after taking the No. 2 spot from BSU. Malykh took Katherine Nguyen down in straight sets on court No. 6 to give the Cardinals back the 2-1 edge over the Cougars.
After that, Kaplan registered a three-set thriller at the No. 3 slot to push Ball State's lead even further. Braun followed suit with a three-set victory on singles court No. 4 to clinch match point for Ball State.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues play out west when it takes on UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif., Tuesday at 6 pm ET.
