
Men's Swim & Dive Hosts Miami on Saturday

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State men's swimming & diving program continues the second half of the 2022-23 campaign Saturday with a noon home dual meet versus league rival Miami. The women will also face off against the RedHawks at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.

This will be the fourth dual meet, and sixth overall competition, for the men's team which owns a 1-2 record and has two third place finishes among the eight-team fields at the Indiana Intercollegiates (Oct. 22) and the Miami Invitational Dec. (1-3) so far this season.

The last time out Ball State men's swimming & diving team captured five events against Southern Illinois last Saturday afternoon in a dual meet at Indiana State's Vigo County Aquatic Center.
Junior Joey Garberick came out strong for Ball State by earning victories in the 100 (55.62) and 200 (2:04.57) breaststroke events. Garberick also led off the 200-freestyle relay that finished in first place with a time of 1:22.28. Garberick was joined on the relay by senior Owen Chaye, freshman Jacob Siewers, and senior Jack Wolfred.

Chaye also finished with a solid day, adding to the Cardinals' victory column with a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle (20.90), and kept his day going with a second-place effort in the 100 freestyle (45.58).

Porter Brovont also added to the win column by scoring 301.30 on the 1-meter diving board. His 1M score was the 10th-best individual score in program history and a NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark. Brovont finished his career day with a second-place finish on the 3M board (306.50).

Ball State last competed against Miami in a dual meet on Oct. 28, 2021, at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. The Cardinals were defeated by a margin of 185-113.Â

In the latest NCAA Division I Top Time Rankings as compiled by CollegeSwimming.com, the Cardinals have 10 student-athletes ranked in scoring position in their respective heading into the Indiana State Matchup.

Junior Joey Garberick is BSU's top-ranked swimmer, holding the number one spot in the 100 breaststroke with his time of 54.62.

MAC AWARD WINNERS:
So far this season, the Cardinals have one MAC award, with freshman Porter Brovont earning MAC Men's Diver of the Week honors. This award came after last Saturday's dual versus Southern Illinois where he won 1-meter diving (301.30) and had a second-place finish in 3-meter diving (306.50). His 1-meter diving score was the 10th-best individual score in program history and a NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark.
