
Cardinals Host Bobcats for Final Regular Season Home Series

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team returns to the friendly confines of the Ball Diamond at First Merchants Ballpark Complex for the last time during the regular season as Ohio comes to town. The Cardinals and Bobcats are scheduled to play a single game on Friday, May 13, a doubleheader on Saturday, May 14, and then a single game on Sunday, May 15.
Prior to Sunday's game, BSU will honor its nine seniors for Senior Day. Adam Christianson, Jake Lewis, Max McKee, Andre Orselli, Nick Powell, Trenton Quartermaine, Tyler Ruetschle, Steven Washilewski, and Amir Wright will be recognized.
Ball State is coming off a 3-1 series win at Kent State. The Cardinals improved to 32-15 on the season and enter the weekend 26-5 in Mid-American Conference games. The Bobcats enter with an overall record of 24-19 and are 16-12 in league play.
Three-Peat Schweitzer
For the third time this season, Tyler Schweitzer was named MAC Pitcher of the Week. Schweitzer was phenomenal for the Cardinals in his lone start over the weekend against Kent State. He picked up a complete-game shutout and scattered just two hits. He finished with nine strikeouts and did not walk anyone. Opponents only hit .087 against him for the week. He improved to 8-2 on the season. For the season, he leads the team with eight wins and bolsters an 8-2 record. He has tallied a team-high 86 strikeouts in 70 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .186 against him. He bolsters an ERA of 2.19 and a WHIP of 1.01. Schweitzer is expected to get the start in game one against Ohio.
Triple "Cole"mination
Zach Cole leads the NCAA with eight triples on the season and that is more that 81 NCAA DI teams. He is tied for the single season record for triples in Ball State history. He currently leads the team with a .662 slugging percentage. He is second on the team with a .324 batting average and is second with nine home runs. He has scored 33 runs, driven in 31, stole six bases, and has hit four doubles.
The Wright Stuff
Earlier today, Amir Wright earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Wright has reached base safely in 46 of the 47 games this season. He leads the team with 45 runs scored and leads the team with a .364 batting average. He is tied for second in the NCAA with six triples. He has 29 walks, 24 RBIs, nine stolen bases, nine doubles, and one home run. Wright is currently 12th in the nation as the toughest to strikeout and leads the MAC with a strikeout average of 14.7. He has struck out just 12 times in 176 at bats.
Maloney Magic
Rich Maloney won his 900th game as a head coach at NIU earlier this season. He moved his win total to 909 after a 3-1 series at Kent State He is currently ranked 16th among active NCAA DI coaches. He is currently ranked 120th in all-time wins across all divisions. He is 83rd among NCAA DI coaches all-time.
