
Cardinals Erupt for 18 Hits in 11-5 Victory

Wright has reached base safely in 47 of the 48 games this season and has extended his streak to 21 games for reaching safely. Trenton Quartermaine has reached safely in 24-straight contests, while Zach Cole and Nick Powell have reached in 11 straight. Hunter Dobbins has reached safely in 10-consecutive games and extended his hitting streak to eight games.
Dobbins and Powell provided the power today as they each launched a home run. Conant led the team with a 4-for-4 day at the plate with two RBIs, while Wright recorded a 4-for-5 game with two RBIs. Quartermaine and Adam Christianson both produced two RBIs each. Dobbins, Ryan Peltier, and Christianson all finished with two hits apiece.
In the top of the second, Peltier made an outstanding play on a hard-hit ball down the third base line and was able to turn two to end the top of the first.

Cole led off the top of the second with a walk after he fell behind in the count 0-2. Peltier singled to left field and gave Ball State runners on first and second with one out. Christianson grounded out to the first baseman but moved Cole and Peltier up a base. Conant notched his first hit of the day as he drove in Cole and Peltier on a single to right field. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead into the third inning.
The Bobcats pulled within one, on an RBI single to right by Isaiah Peterson.
In the home half of the third, Dobbins launched a solo home run to deep left field. BSU took a 3-1 lead into the fourth.

Christianson produced a one-out single to center field to give the Cardinals some momentum in the bottom of the fourth. Conant singled to left field and gave Ball State runners on first and second. Quartermaine cleared the bases with a double to left center and extended the BSU lead to 5-1.
In the home half of the fifth, Dobbins led off the inning with a single to center field. Cole was hit by a pitch. Adam Tellier grounded into a double play but moved Dobbins to third with two outs. Peltier delivered a clutch two-out single to right to plate Dobbins from third. The Cardinals held a 6-1 lead as the game headed to the sixth.
Conant tripled down the right field line to lead off the bottom of the sixth for BSU. Wright followed with a high-chopping single that bounced over the second baseman's head to score Conant from third. After Wright was thrown out trying to steal second, Powell belted a solo shot to dead center and put the Cardinals on top 8-1.

In the top of the seventh, Ohio rattled off four runs on four hits and stranded two runners on base. The Bobcats cut the Cardinal lead to 8-5.
Ball State was resilient and answered in the home half of the seventh. Cole led off the inning for BSU with a walk. Tellier singled through the left side. Peltier recorded the sac bunt to the pitcher and moved the runners up a base. Christianson followed with a single to the outfield and advanced to second on the throw home as Cole and Tellier both scored. Conant singled to the shortstop up the middle and moved Christianson to third. Wright provided the Cardinals with an RBI single to right field and gave Ball State an 11-5 lead after seven innings.
The 11-5 lead was all the Cardinals needed as the combination of Ryan Brown and Steven Washilewski gave BSU 2 2/3 innings of hitless baseball.
Tyler Schweitzer got the start and recorded his ninth win of the season as he improved to 9-2 on the season. He went 6 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts. He surrendered five runs, four earned, on seven hits. Brown added two innings of hitless ball with three strikeouts and a walk. Washilewski closed out the game with 2/3 innings and struck out one batter.
Michael Richardson led the Bobcats at the plate with a 2-for-4 game and scored two runs. Spencer Harbert recorded the lone homer for Ohio. Edward Kutt IV got the start on the mound for the Bobcats and picked up the loss. Kutt went six innings with eight earned runs on 13 hits and struck out four batters. Luke Borer went two innings in relief and gave up three runs on five hits with no strikeouts.
The Cardinals and Bobcats return to the Ball Diamond at First Merchants Ballpark Complex on Saturday for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
