Three Cardinals finish in top 10 in Puerto Rico
DORADO, Puerto Rico – The Ball State men's golf team picked up a third-place finish after competing in the Dorado Beach Collegiate. The Cardinals shot a 3-under 285 to round out the three-day tournament at 22-under (274-283-285--842) at the par-72 Dorado Beach Resort and Club Sugarcane Course.
"While we came up short in the pursuit of a team title, I was proud of how our guys came out and competed each day," head coach Mike Fleck said. "We're taking back with us some key head-to-head wins and three top-10 individual finishers. We're excited to prep in Arizona next week with the entire team and compete again at Grand Canyon."
Ball State finished just seven shots from the top spot, which was occupied by host UNCG at 29-under (835). Drexel took second at 25-under (839).
Kash Bellar led the way for Cardinals and finished in a tie for fifth at 7-under (69-73-67--209). Bellar had a team-high five birdies and eagled the par-5 sixth hole to highlight his final circuit of the course.
Ali Khan and Colin Nasser joined Bellar inside the top 10 and tied for seventh at 6-under. Khan (68-69-73--210) and Nasser (69-71-70--210) racked up three birdies apiece in the final round Tuesday.
Joey Ranieri and Joey Wiseman each tallied top-25 finishes with Ranieri ending in 21st at 3-under (69-70-74--213) and Wiseman tying for 25th at 1-under (72-71-72--215). The duo combined for six birdies in the final round split evenly between the front and back nine.
Griffin Hare rounded out the Ball State contingent and tied for 38th at 1-over (68-76-73--217).
The Cardinals return to the links March 14-15 for the GCU Invitational, hosted by Grand Canyon, in Phoenix, Ariz.
