Men's Swimming Returns to Action With Pair of Weekend Meets

MUNCIE, Ind. - - After focusing on training for the past two months, the Ball State men's swimming team will get back into the competition pool of the first time this calendar year for a pair of meets this weekend.

Starting it off, the Cardinals travel to Bellarmine where it will be joined by BSU's women's swimmers for a noon swim at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center in Louisville.

After coming home to cheer on the women for a Saturday senior day dual with Mid-American Conference rival Buffalo, the men's swimmers close out the weekend Sunday, Jan. 30, at the 13th Annual Butler Invitational. Action for that meet begins at noon at Fishers High School.

In a late addition, Ball State's men's diving program will also be represented at the Butler Invite.

The last time the Ball State men's swimming team competed as a squad was Nov. 18-20 at the IUPUI House of Champions, when it placed fourth among seven teams with a team score of 891.5.
Over the course of the meet, Ball State's men's swimmers registered 11 times which broke into the top 20 in program history, led by junior Bryce Handshoe with the third-fastest time in the 200 butterfly at 1:50.97.

In the latest USA Swimming Mid-American Conference Top Times report, the Ball State men's squad has 13 student-athletes ranked in scoring position in their respective events through the first four meets of the season.

The Cardinals have dominated the league's weekly awards so far this season, earning seven total honors … Leading the way are sophomore breaststroke specialist Joey Garberick with three MAC Men's Swimmer of the Week honors (Oct. 21, Nov. 5 and Nov. 24) and senior diver Hunter Ongay (Oct. 21, Nov. 24 and Jan. 26) with three MAC Men's Diver of the Week awards … In addition, junior diver Wyatt Blake has claimed one MAC Men's Diver of the Week honor (Nov. 5).
