MUNCIE, Ind. - - It's official, Ball State women's senior Caitlin Locante was one of 28 divers selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Zone C Diving Championships set for March 7-9 at the Lancaster Aquatic Center at the University of Kentucky.
Â
The women's 1-meter competition begins Sunday (March 7)Â at 10:30 a.m. with the preliminary round, followed by finals at 12:30 p.m. The women's 3-meter event will be held Monday (March 8) at the same times.
Â
A three-time MAC Diver of the Week and a two-time MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week this season, Locante finished her 2019-20 season at the same diving well.Â
Â
She was in the middle of competing on the 1-meter board at her first NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, sitting in the top 30 with a score of 242.60 when the meet was canceled in the middle of the third round due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
This season, Locante has set herself up for an even bigger performance at the championships, having established program records on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
Â
Her program-record 3-meter score of 347.78 set last Friday at Miami shattered her previous effort of 323.625 turned in versus UIndy on Jan. 16. Prior to Locante breaking the record twice this season, Whitney Adams held the program standard at 318.67 set in 2012.
Â
Locante also claimed the 1-meter program record last Friday with a score of 305.48. The effort moved her past Beth Clark's old mark of 301.875 set in 1997.
