MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team continues its six-game home stand when it hosts Longwood University for a two-game Mid-American Conference series on Friday and Saturday at the Briner Sports Complex with both competitions scheduled to begin at Noon.
Â
The Cardinals (2-4, 2-2 MAC) are coming off of a league split against Ohio in Muncie last weekend. Ball State won Friday's game, 2-1. Both Rachel Pereira and Maureen Donegan scored one goal apiece for Ball State to help lift the Cardinals past the Bobcats. On Saturday, Angel Nkosi tied the game against the Bobcats in the fourth period to send the contest into overtime, but unfortunately the Cardinals would drop the heartbreaker to Ohio, 2-1.
Â
The Longwood Lancers come to Ball State with a 2-2 overall record and 1-2 MAC ledger. The Lancers lone conference win came against Kent State on March 12 by a score of 1-0 in Farmville, Va. Since then, Longwood has dropped three games in a row, recently to Miami last weekend after falling to the RedHawks (2-1) on Friday and by a score of 3-1 on Saturday.Â
Â
The Cardinals defeated Longwood in their last meeting on Oct. 25, 2019 in Farmville, Va. after registering a 2-1 overtime victory against the Lancers. It was Pereira who had the game-winner that contest. She found the net at the 60:48 mark in overtime off of a penalty corner. Pereira got help from former Cardinal Michelle Shampton and current senior Jenna McKune that game.
Â
After this weekend, Ball State closes out its six-game homestand when it hosts Bellarmine on April 2 and 3 with both games scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
