Cardinals Sweep Urbana for Third Straight Win

MUNCIE, Ind. – In a match against an opponent playing its first season as an NCAA program, the Ball State University men's volleyball team recorded many of its own firsts on the way to defeating Urbana, 3-0, Thursday night at Worthen Arena.
TEAM RECORDS
The Cardinals improved to 6-3 on the season and won their third-straight match. BSU has now won nine-consecutive sets. The Blue Knights dropped to 0-11 for the season.
IMPACT PERFORMANCE
Brandon Shepherd led Ball State with a career-high 10 kills while hitting .471 for the night. The redshirt freshman also added one block and three digs.

SET-BY-SET SUMMARY
Set One (BSU 25, UU 14)- Ball State appeared to be running away early when it claimed a 7-3 lead, but the Blue Knights rallied off four-straight points to even the set at seven apiece. After a few back-and-forth points, Romano led BSU on a 7-0 run to put the set out of reach and claim an early 1-0 advantage.
Set Two (BSU 25, UU 18)- The Cardinals jumped on the Blue Knights in set two with a 3-0 run to open the game. After Urbana eventually caught up and evened the score, Shepherd led a 5-0 stretch from the service line for Ball State to gain enough separation for a comfortable set-two victory.
Set Three (BSU 25, UU 20)- In a rhythm and the match well in hand, Ball State entered many of its young and inexperienced players in the final set. Led by David Flores at setter, the Cardinals rallied off four different 3-0 runs to secure the sweep.
BALL STATE NOTES AND QUOTES
"We wanted to keep up the momentum we found last weekend and we did that tonight," said head coach Joel Walton. "Tonight was a good opportunity for us to play some different guys and give a few guys a rest. It was a good win and we just need to keep moving forward."
-Both Flores and fellow freshman Sammy Adkisson made their respective Ball State debut's Thursday night. Flores recorded one kill, 14 assists and three digs while Adkisson totaled two assists and a dig.
-Senior Nate Amos recorded both the first kill and block of his Ball State career in the win.
-Coach Walton now owns 397 wins for his career. He is three shy from the 400 mark and BSU's next three matches are all at home.
-Freshman Wil McPhillips hit an impressive .818 with nine kills in the victory. Both are career highs.
