Cardinals Suffer Setback at NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. – Despite forcing overtime in two of three sets, the Ball State men's volleyball team could not overcome an early deficit as it went on to drop a 3-0 decision Saturday night at NJIT.
TEAM RECORDS
The Cardinals dropped to an even 3-3 for the year while NJIT improved to 4-2 on the season.
IMPACT PERFORMANCE
Sophomore Kaleb Jenness led Ball State in nearly every statistical category, including a team-high 10 kills.

SET-BY-SET SUMMARY
Set One (NJIT 27, BSU 25)- The opening set of the match was back and forth nearly the entire time as both teams went on runs and traded leads. NJIT held two set points at 24-23 and 25-24 which the Cardinals fought off both times. The third time was a charm for the Highlanders though as they took a 1-0 lead by scoring the final two points of the set.
Set Two (NJIT 25, BSU 16)- The second game was not nearly as close due to NJIT jumping out to an 8-2 lead to start things off. BSU fought back to trim the lead to two at 9-7, but the Highlanders ripped off a 7-1 run to regrow their lead and cruise out to a dominant 2-0 lead in the match.
Set Three (NJIT 26, BSU 24)- Ball State again fell behind early in the final set of the match, but fought its way back and evened up the game at 15 apiece. The two sides continued to trade points and Ball State eventually earned a set point with the score 24-23. NJIT took a timeout and it paid off as the Highlanders scored three straight to close out the match.
BALL STATE NOTES
-Saturday's win was NJIT's first ever against Ball State. The Cardinals were previously a perfect 10-0 against NJIT.
-Romano and Quinn Isaacson continued to split time at the setter position. Isaacson added 10 assists to Romano's 12.
-The loss marks BSU's first three-match losing streak since the Cardinals lost to three-consecutive contests to ranked opponents in 2019.
