
Cardinals Finish Road Trip at No. 7 Penn State, Saint Francis

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State men's volleyball's long six-match road journey will finally come to a close this weekend in Pennsylvania when the Cardinals play matches at No. 7 Penn State Friday and Saint Francis Saturday.

ABOUT PENN STATE
The Nittany Lions enter Friday's match as the No. 7 team in the country. Penn State has a 4-2 record with wins over nationally ranked opponents Loyola, Lewis and UCLA. Its only losses are a pair of contests against No. 3 BYU. Brett Wildman leads PSU with 82 kills for the year and Calvin Mende has 67.
SERIES HISTORY
Penn State leads the series with Ball State 62-29. The Cardinals won last season's meeting in four sets at Worthen Arena.

The Red Flash opened 2020 with an upset victory over No. 7 Stanford in five sets. Since then, SFU has last four of five and owns a 2-4 record. Saint Francis will host Ohio State before the Cardinals visit Saturday night. Michael Fisher leads the attack for SFU with 78 kills for the year.

Ball State owns a 16-6 advantage in the all-time series with Saint Francis. The Cardinals swept the Red Flash a year ago in Muncie.
BALL STATE STORYLINES
SNAP THE STREAK: The Cardinals will look to snap a three-match losing streak when they travel to Pennsylvania for the weekend. The most consecutive matches BSU lost last season was four.
COAST-TO-COAST: After playing two matches against Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara in California, Ball State played two contests on the opposite end of the country last weekend. BSU will again travel to the East Coast this weekend to take on Penn State and Saint Francis.
NO MIDDLE GROUND: All of Ball State's matches this season have gone either three or five sets. The Cardinals have yet to play any four-set contests. BSU is 2-1 in matches played in just three sets and 1-2 in games that go all five.
BACK AND FORTH: Ball State and Penn State have alternated wins in the series' last seven matches. A team last won two in a row when BSU won in 2011 and 2013.
NEW FACES: The Cardinals welcomed four newcomers this offseason. Setter David Flores, middle attacker Wil McPhillips and libero Sammy Adkisson come to Ball State by way of Illinois while outside attacker Bryce Behrendt hails from Wisconsin. Behrendt was named the Wisconsin High School Male Athlete of the Year in 2019.
