Cardinals Tune up for MAC Championships with Trip to Nation’s Capital
April 07, 2019 | Women's Golf
Young Ball State team has shown the ability to score well in recent weeks
The Ball State women's golf team heads east for its first appearance at Georgetown's Hoya Invitational and its last tuneup for the MAC Championships.
The Cardinals are one of nine teams competing at Four Streams Golf Club in Beallsville, Maryland. The tournament features 36 holes Monday and the final 18 Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start both days. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Akron is the only other MAC team in a field that also includes Bucknell, Lehigh, LIU Brooklyn, Quinnipiac, Richmond and St. John's.
Ball State has demonstrated a potential to score well over the past two events, posting sub-300 team totals in three of its last six rounds. The Cardinals closed last week's EKU Colonel Classic with a 298 to vault five spots up the leaderboard into a sixth-place finish.
Liz Kim tied for 11th at EKU, bolstered by a career-best 71 in the final round. Hadley Moritz has come on strong with scores of 76 or better in five of her past eight rounds, including a career-best 69 to open the Spring Break Shootout. And Manon Tounalom has been her steady self with no finish worse than a tie for 26th this spring.
Joining that trio this week are Emily Knouff and Morgan Lewis, both of whom have played every event but one as part of the BSU lineup. Dylann Armstrong will also compete as an individual.
Ball State will have 10 days from the end of the Hoya Invitational before the start of the MAC Championships, which will be contested close to home at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville.
